Read a Banned Book

Every year hundreds of books are banned, because a certain slice of the population disagrees with the view point of the author. Last year's Top Ten List of Banned Books have been published on ala.org(American Library Association). Coming out on top was 'The Chocolate War', written by Robert Cormier. What I found most interesting was the fact that the Harry Potter series were banned in some parts of the world for the past few years. The site also contains a list of the 100 most frequently challenged books during the last decade (1990-2000). Go check it out and read one of those banned books.

The Top Ten in order of Notoriety
  1. The Chocolate War - Robert Cormier
  2. Fallen Angels - Walter Dean Myers
  3. Arming America - Michael A. Bellesiles
  4. Captain Underpants - Dave Pilkey
  5. The Perks of Being a Wallflower - Stephen Chbosky
  6. What My Mother Doesn't Know - Sonya Sones
  7. In the Night Kitchen - Maurice Sendak
  8. King & King - Linda de Haan
  9. I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings - Maya Angelou
  10. Of Mice and Men - John Steinback
