Wear Black Protest

China has decided to block several blogs, mostly those that use TypePad. To join in the online protest, initially started by Glutter, I'm turning this blog black as well. The protest will continue until May 3rd, which is the World Press Freedom Day.

Recent news indicate that Slashdot might have been blocked, by The Great Internet Firewall of China.

Night of the Living Dead

It seems that the 1968 movie by George A. Romero, "Night of the Living Dead" is now part of the public domain. Which means you can download it, re-edit, dub, mix, rinse, repeat as much as you like, and all that legally.

For faster downloads get it with BitTorrent, with this torrent link, thanks to http://www.legaltorrents.com/

Darkness

"As nightfall does not come at once, neither does oppression. In both instances, there is a twilight when everything remains seemingly unchanged. And it is in such twilight that we all must be most aware of change in the air - however slight - lest we become unwitting victims of the darkness."
Justice William O. Douglas

Turn-Off TV

Having wasted most of my life infront of the tube, the great wasteland, I have decided that it's time to turn it off. Well, not really. I believe that it's time to start reading and writing, instead of watching others perform it for me. It's time for me to get involved, and not be in the audience. Quite frankly, I never was comfortable sitting in that dark corner.

Unreal Tournament 2004

Why Unreal? Because I'm sick and tired of waiting for both Doom3 and Half-Life2, while two major releases of the Unreal engine happened. Moreover, it is more scriptable than the other two.

Obsessions

It is surely a great calamity for a human being to have no obsessions. - Robert Bly

C. S. Lewis Quote

"The books or the music in which we thought the beauty was located will betray us if we trust them: it was not in them, it only came through them, and what came through them was longing. These things - the beauty, the memory of our own past - are good images of what we really desire; but if they are mistaken for the thing itself they turn into dumb idols, breaking the hearts of their worshipers. For they are not the thing itself; they are only the scent of a flower we have not found, the echo of a tune we have not heard, news from a country we have never yet visited." -- C. S. Lewis

I keep losing this. So instead of finding it every time, I'll just post it here.

Sufi Mysticism in the Maldives

I've met a couple of people who practise Sufism in secret in the Maldives.

This is an introduction to Sufism

sufism

Recollections

Waking up to a new day, an afternoon gray
windy cold, post apocalyptic mood swings
The dust blows, the fuel burns, the air as putrid.
